Managed Health Care Has Advantages

Posted by admin on May 12th, 2009

There are so many health insurance funds in the market place that are providing a variety of plans, being able to choose the right one for you and your family can be a real worry. This is especially the case if you don’t know exactly what kind of cover you really need. You might have trouble finding the time to explore all avenues of the insurance schemes that are available to you.

Health insurance is divided into two large categories, indemnity and managed care plans. Indemnity plans, also commonly called reimbursement plans, will reimburse your medical expenses up to a certain limit. Under the Reimbursement plan, the insurer pays a percentage of the total charges, regardless of how much the charges are. With the indemnity plan, the insurer will pay a specified amount every day for a specified number of days. The amount reimbursed does not rely on the cost of medical care, but rather the fact that the reimbursed amounts will never exceed your expenses.

The other popular type of health insurance plans is managed care plans. The three types of policies categorized as managed care plans are HMOs, POSs, and PPOs. This type of insurance is more popular than the indemnity plan, as they offer more flexibility. With these types of options you either pay a monthly fee no matter how many times you see a doctor, or pay a co-payment but no monthly fee. With managed care plans, you are given options of care. The plan you choose and the amount of money you wish to pay determines how big of a network of doctors and specialists you can see and still be covered under the plan. Some managed car plans (most often PPOs) offer sponsorship programs from a network of hospitals and medical services. You can often get this kind of plan through your employer.

Managed healthcare plans are better for the average person due to the fact that they are more cost effective. While indemnity plans may give you a lot more freedom in cost, you will have to use the healthcare provider that the insurer chooses. If you have a specific disability, this can present itself as a problem. In the long run, a managed care plan will save you money, especially if emergencies arise when you are out of town. These types of plans also are more flexible in policy. Before you purchase any kind of health insurance, be sure to research the many options available for you and your family to ensure you receive the best coverage possible for the lowest monthly premium or deductible.

When you are struggling to find a better health insurance policy and you don’t have the time to shop around, you would be well advised to seek the services of a professional health insurance broker. You will end up with an affordable policy that is tailored to your needs.

Considering An Indemnity Health Insurance Plan

Posted by admin on May 9th, 2009

If your are considering whether to take an indemnity health insurance option, then make sure that you research the plan thoroughly to determine the advantages and note any disadvantages. Indemnity health insurance plans are regularly known as traditional health insurance plans. This type of plan can be costly, but often cover most of the health problems that may arise, while other insurance plans exclude some illnesses or diseases from their coverage. Some disadvantages to indemnity plans are that they do not usually cover preventative health care like physicals, and traditional health insurance plans often cover only a percentage of your bill.

Certain disadvantages of indemnity health insurance plans may seem to be a problem, but there are many advantages to the plans that may better suit your needs. You may have a higher monthly premium and you may need to pay up front costs and submit claims paperwork, but your deductible will be more manageable and your coverage will be wider. Some health insurance plans will not cover certain medical expenses or care, but indemnity plans often do.

Another benefit of indemnity health insurance plans that many people desire is the freedom to choose your own physician. While other health insurance plans offered by the insurance industry limit your choice of physicians and hospitals to a list of preferred providers, indemnity insurance will cover any physician or hospital that you choose. This benefit may seem unworthy of mention, but there has been more than one instance where a mother finds that her son or daughter’s pediatrician is not in their preferred provider network and has to search for another pediatrician. This also means that you can see a specialist without having to consult with your primary care physician first.

Overall, indemnity health insurance plans also offer you the best emergency medical coverage in the industry. While preferred provider organizations (PPOs) or point-of-service (POS) plans limit the physician you can see to a list of network physicians and hospitals, the freedom of choosing any physician is nationwide with indemnity health insurance plans. This means that if you are traveling across the country and have an accident or a medical emergency, you can go to the nearest hospital or see the closest physician without worrying about the expense.

There have been instances where hospitals or physicians will either refuse to treat patients or treat them only minimally because the hospital or physician is not inside the plan’s preferred provider network, meaning that the patient’s health insurance will only cover a small part of the expense, and the patient is liable to pay the rest of the bill. This is an unsuitable situation for the physician and/or hospital to be placed in, since patients are often unable to fully pay costly medical bills.

This is certainly not the case if you are covered by an indemnity health insurance plan. This aspect alone is worthy of careful consideration, before you decide on a Health Insurance plan for you and your family.

What Type Of Health Insurance Is Better

Posted by admin on March 22nd, 2009

There are quite a number of different types of health insurance that are available in the United States.

Traditional health insurance, preferred provider organizations or PPOs, point-of-service plans or POS, health management organizations or HMOs, and recently added, health savings accounts or HSAs.

With so many types of health insurance, it may be confusing for some of us to figure out which one best fits your needs, so thoroughly research each and speak with a professional if you need clarification.

Those, who are joining a health fund for he first time, usually consider traditional health insurance. Members pay an insurance company a premium each month, and if they are involved in an accident or need medical attention after becoming ill, they have to pay a small surcharge and then the insurance company covers the rest of the costs… Full Story Here

Dental Insurance For Your Smile

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2009

People who have dental insurance really appreciate the value of their smile, and also the importance of maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Most of us take our teeth for granted, we eat with them, clean them, and forget them. Generally a visit to the dentist is considered only when one is suffering from an unbearable tooth ache.

When taking out a health insurance policy some people consider the inclusion of dental insurance as an added expense that is not really essential. Visiting the dentist is usually regarded as a distasteful occasion, and the lack of a dental care plan is an apt excuse to avoid regular dental check ups, others of course, consider that their teeth are healthy and there is no need to pay for a service that is not currently needed. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances quite often arise, and even a minor dental procedure can cost hundreds of dollars. Extensive dental work that may be needed in the event of an emergency could cost many thousands of dollars.

Even those with healthy teeth still need regular dental checkups, in order to detect tooth decay or gum infection at an early stage. Untreated dental disease can result in serious consequences, not only for your teeth but for your general health and well being. The mouth is a gateway to the body, and our teeth process everything that we eat, any oral disease that we may have is transmitted to our internal organs through the food that we eat. Therefore, having a dental insurance plan that covers regular dental checkups, can help to detect dental diseases in their early stages of development. Preventative dental care will save you much more than the extra cost of dental insurance, because detecting tooth decay or gum disease early will avoid costly dental procedures in the future.

Dental insurance does appear to be a needless expense to some, however it is absolutely necessary, not only for the benefit of your smile, but in order to protect your general health. Make sure that your current health insurance policy includes dental care, and if not, then contact your insurance broker to seek options on an affordable dental care plan.

Choose Better Health Insurance

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2009

Some people regard health Insurance as an optional expense that will provide them with VIP treatment, if they get sick. In reality, ViP treatment is extended to everybody, when they are in need of medical services. Unfortunately, modern healthcare comes at an enormous cost, however most of the cost is bourne by a health insurance fund, provided that you are a member. Almost every one of us will need healthcare at some stage of our lives, either because of accidental injury, illness or incapacitation. Having a better health insurance policy, one that is affordable, provides adequate cover that includes extended cover for long term illness, is absolutely essential and a necessary cost of living. This type of policy can save a person thousands of dollars and possible bankruptcy.

HealthcareBefore joining a health fund, be aware that there is no standard policy. Each health insurance company will specify a range of services that it will cover, for a certain monthly premium, which will vary, according to the services that are included in the policy. It is a good idea to do some canvassing to get an idea of what services are provided, and the premium charges. When you are armed with this information you can call a few brokers for quotes to compare prices and, after carefully checking the details from each fund, choose an affordable policy that best suits your needs. Make sure that you are not going to pay for services that you will never use, or skimp on services that you will definitely be needing. Remember that the out of pocket expenses for services that are not covered by your policy could far exceed the extra couple of dollars it costs to have them included.

Group coverage, taken out through an employer, is a great way to get affordable healthcare cover because of the concessions gained through bulk buying. Depending upon your circumstances you may even be eligible for a tax break when you subscribe to a health fund through your employer. In the event of dismissal or retrenchment you will remain a member of the fund provided that you keep the monthly premiums up to date. The government provides some assistance to the unemployed to help them cover these costs.

Working couples need to consider their options before taking out health insurance, as each partner will need to be covered for certain different services. A joint policy that includes a range of services to cover both parties, may be more expensive than two policies that are tailored to the needs of each individual. Again, contributing to an employer’s group fund would most likely be the best deal.

After considering the options, make sure that you choose a better health insurance policy, one that will provide you and your family with security. Remember, no healthcare cover is not an option.
