How To Make Homemade Soap, Explained In Simple Words

Many people nowadays are considering studying how to make homemade soap as this particular craft is gaining more and more speed. You will find so many reasons to make your own soap - firstly, it is less expensive to make your own soap at home. And because all of the ingredients are natural, it doesn't have a harsh drying influence on your pores and skin. Almost everybody I've given one homemade soap to has said that they don't want to ever again return to regular soap.

If you want to get into this on your own and find out how fun it is to do, you'll get yourself hooked soon. Consider yourself warned. Anyway, here's how the overall system works.

All soap is created from mixing sodium hydroxide (also referred to as lye), a naturally-occurring chemical together with several sorts of fats or oils. Examples could be coconut oil, shea butter or coconut butter, olive oil, and many others. You can find many oils that can be applied for soap making and mixing them together in various ratios leads to many interesting types of soap in many versions.

Add to this the fact that you can also include essential oils and aromas, coloring as well as dried herbs and flowers, plus you can design and mold the final soap into bricks, circles, American states or whichever shape you prefer -- and you've also opened a serious opportunity for creative expression and making the kind of soap that says a thing about you.

If you want to make homemade soap, then the procedures are:

1. You make a lye solution by mixing lye and water in the right proportion (usually marked in the recipe), letting it cool to room temperature.

2. You then take a pot, and heat it to melt the oils and fats which are solid at room temperature, and also warm the liquid oils.

3. Add the lye, stir with a stick blender until it reaches 'trace', the state where all the components have irreversibly mixed with each other and the chemical process of 'saponification' has begun.

4. Add in the essential oils, herbs, and coloring and mix them in.

5. Pour the soap into your prepared molds to set.

6. After twenty four hours, take them out and put them on racks and leave to cure. After around four weeks of curing your soaps are ready to use.
