Using Same Day Dentures After Teeth Extraction

When teeth are extracted the patient has two options in getting their dentures. The dentures may be placed into the mouth instantly on the same day the teeth were extracted; or they can wait a period of time and have the dentures placed after the gums have healed.

If you opt for same day dentures then there will be certain work done before the extraction. Before all of the teeth are extracted the physician will make an impression of the mouth while there are still some teeth remaining. The denture will be made from this impression and will be ready to replace the natural teeth after the remaining teeth are extracted.

Same day dentures help the patient to get accustomed to the teeth faster because the person will have never been without teeth. Of course, there will be an adjustment while the gums are healing beneath the new denture. During the healing courses the denture should not be removed until the dentist removes them at the appointed time. If you remove them and put them back in regularly, before you have that first dental consultation after extraction, you will cause a delay in the duration you will adjust to the denture. The object with same day dentures is to never be without teeth.

The 2nd option is to get the teeth extracted and then go without teeth until the gums have healed. When the gums have healed the doctor will then make the impression of the gums and subsequently have the teeth made. The patient can remain without teeth for around a period of three months. During this time eating is troublesome and the patient clearly does not look as attractive as he or she did with teeth, leaving the patient with a depressed mood and avoiding friends and family.

In both cases there is a time of adjustment. The teeth may feel somewhat too tight or too loose, at which time the dentist will adjust the denture to fit well. Adjustments may take a while and whenever the patient feels some pain from the denture he or she should see the dentist immediately. When this is overlooked, the rubbing denture can not only cause pain but can cause a small sore to occur. The denture should never be taken off when there is little pain from rubbing because this will only make it more difficult for one to adjust to the denture. Proper adjustment is important to ensure a proper fit of the denture.

Before you make a decision for extraction, and before you consider if same day dentures are for you, remember to discuss it with the dentist that will be carrying out the extraction and replacement. When you have discussed this with the dentist then make your decision. No matter what your decision is, be sure to follow it faithfully because when you do your denture will never feel like a foreign material and will last for a long time.

Prerequisites Of Wearing Permanent Dentures
If you have only a few teeth to be extracted you may want to have the new teeth placed into the open sockets immediately and bonded to the anchor teeth. Also for a few teeth you can have a partial denture that can be clipped onto or attached to the anchor teeth.
